BlueVector operates over an unusually wide spectrum of technologies (life science and otherwise), often combined in a complex interdisciplinary manner. Here is a selection of technologies with which we have been involved:- A novel medical device for drug (licit and illicit) detoxification, set to transform the lives of addicts around the world. The brain’s natural neurotransmitter levels, which have been disrupted by chronic drug misuse, are re-established without the use of chemical substitutes.
- A highly advanced text mining system, employing Natural Language Processing and with a versatile core architecture which can be readily adapted across a host of different domains.
- A ground-breaking web application which allows plaintext information in web pages to be structured by the user into a machine readable format.
- Exciting new technologies for the genomics arena, including enzyme-free DNA sequencing and innovative, computational solutions for microarray gene expression analysis.
- An innovative cell-separation technology which increases biomanufacturing yield of antibodies and other biomedical proteins.
- A unique continuous mixing process which overcomes the problems (e.g. crystallization) associated with batch mixing in fine chemicals production (such as pharmaceuticals).
- A water quality testing system which converts an inefficient, labour intensive operation for detecting pathogenic microbes, into a fully automated process, thus enabling huge cost savings for a number of industries.
- The application of quantum dots (semiconductor nanoparticles) to the recovery of latent fingerprints in forensic science, and also a range of medical applications.
- An optoelectronic instrument (more sensitive and robust than anything on the market) to be used by the police for roadside testing of driving under the influence of drugs.
- An industry-changing control system for Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition (HCCI) internal combustion engines, which lowers fuel consumption and toxic emissions.
- A novel contact lens biopolymer which will both radically reduce costs and increase biocompatibility.
BlueVector has done several projects on behalf of the Scottish Government in association with the SMART: SCOTLAND programme, in which SME companies receive grants to aid development of their innovative technologies. In this scheme, BlueVector has conducted market evaluations for and business reviews of SMART winning companies. This work has contributed significantly to the companies securing private investment, further public funding, and partnerships with large, multi-national companies.
